Faul Magic's Mission Statement

Faul Magic focuses on creating inclusive art about disabilities, queer identity, and being neurodivergent while keeping a cute and cheerful aesthetic. We were created to help positively impact the changing narrative of invisible disabilities, disorders, and mental health.

How it Started

The founder of Faul Magic, Katherine Waddell (She/They), decided to start their own brand in June of 2022. Kat graduated in December of 2021 from Dallas College with an Associate in Fashion Marketing and originally wanted to create a nerdy business wear line. When Covid-19 hit in 2020 it really made Kat reflect on whether or not they still wanted to do this business idea as millions transitioned to working remotely. After a lot of consideration, she decided she wanted to be making something to express her creativity and get comfortable with running her own company. They attended some local Denton, Texas pop up markets in the spring of 2022 as a guest and decided to start from there. It wasn't long before Kat was making art about the new physical disabilities they were dealing with along with their experiences as a nerdy and queer neurodivergent person.

What does Faul Magic mean?

Faul is German for the word lazy and also the name of the brand's mascot, Faul the Lazy Magical frog. Laziness is considered by many, including us, to not be real and instead a harmful social concept that implies that our worth is tied to our productivity. At Faul Magic we consider the concept of laziness to be a side effect of the hustle culture of capitalism and often used in harmful ways that hurt those with disorders such as Executive Dysfunction and various physical and mental disabilities. However, we also love the way the word sounds, and the imagery of cute "lazy" animal characters so we took the word and decided to make it our own.

Faul Magic's Values
  • Giving back to the communities we serve: Disabled, Neurodivergent, Queer and other marginalized groups.
  • Kind Open Door: We believe in being kind when telling someone they made a mistake, and expect and value the same. When Faul Magic or Katherine makes a mistake: we try our best to Reflect, Research, and Own it.
  • Transparency of our processes from top to bottom: design, manufacturing, and packaging processes.
  • We believe firmly in Community over Competition and want to help out other artists who need the resources to grow. Check out our blog for Small Business Resources.
  • Keeping things goofy and positive while always standing up for what we believe in.
  • Avoiding single use plastic as much as possible and keeping waste as low as possible within the means of accessibility.
